ang umaga'y sumilang
na may dalang liwanag
at kasiyahan
sa labi
ng isang nagugutom
na mortal.

why do we wake up
each day
only to tire ourselves
and then look forward
to another sleep?

ang tanghali'y tumirik

na may lason,

na mapait ma'y

pinilit hagkan

ng nasabik

na mangmang.

...why do we tend

to forget things

that we needed;

and instead,

remember

those things

that hurt us

and should have

walked away from?

ang gabi'y kumalat

na may kamatayan
sa tuyot na talulot
ng mga tayutay
at tugma
ng isang
lumimot
na manunulat.

and why can't we just
warp to tomorrow

and write the history

of today

...as another memory

of yesterday?
